Everything you need to know about our live pills

Frequently Asked Questions

How many liver pills do I take?

Suggested dosage is 6/day. You can take more or less depending on how you feel. You can take them with a meal or between meals. I like to take them with breakfast to increase mid-afternoon energy levels. Some like to take them later in the day as an adrenal boost. Trust yourself.

What can I expect?

The nutrients in liver (Vitamins A & D, all the B-vitamins including folate, iron, copper, zinc, DHA, trace minerals and antioxidants) serve many functions in the body, including nourishing the blood, reproductive system, nervous system, digestion, eyesight, skin health, hair growth and color, overall anti-aging, and maintaining excellent energy levels. These nutrients are especially important for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, women planning to conceive, pre- and post-menopausal women, children, athletes, and those recovering from stress or illness. Many experience greater energy, decreased anxiety, increased strength, and better sleep. You will generally notice more energy on day 2 or 3 after starting them.

How much liver am I taking each day?

Each serving (6 capsules) is the equivalent of 1/2 ounce of liver.

How much iron, copper, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, etc. is in the capsules?

Each serving of liver pills (6 pills) is the equivalent of 1/2 ounce of grassfed beef liver.

The nutrient contents are: 2.5 mg Iron, 2000 mcg Copper, 2,500 IU of Retinol (food-source Vitamin A), 7.14 IU of Vitamin D, 50 mg of Choline, 36 mcg Folate and 2.7 ug of Vitamin B12.

There is 3 g protein in 6 capsules, and 5 g in 1/2 tsp of liver powder.

All those amounts are well below the recommended daily nutrient intake.

What about Hypervitaminosis A? Thankfully, Hypervitaminosis A has never been clinically or anecdotally recorded from consuming beef liver. The amount of beef liver you would need to eat would exceed the ability of your mouth and stomach to consume it.

A final word about "nutrients." Its great to be curious about individual nutrients. However, try to expand your mind to see beef liver as concentrated solar energy. That's how traditional people saw it, and that's how if affects our bodies.

Can kids and babies take liver pills?

If ancestral foodways are new for your family, please ask your health care provider. I believe that most will encourage mothers to nourish their kids with high-quality real food, but if you're unsure, it's essential to talk to a trusted source and get his or her opinion.

Now, onto my opinion (Suuzi).

Yes, kids can take liver pills, and they can be an absolute convenience godsend for busy but nutrition-minded moms, and here's how to do it safely.

FOR BABIES 4 MONTHS AND OLDER, simply open a capsule and sprinkle the powder onto your finger and let them lick it off. You can also mix it into their purees, into smoothies or yogurt. 2 capsules a day should be plenty for baby. They may want more, and you can choose how much to give them based on your intuition, common sense and wallet size, as I've seen my own kids and their friends eat 20 capsules in a session before.

FOR TODDLERS: 2 capsules a day. Most toddlers love chewing up the capsules. Make sure they're at the table eating calmly. If you would like, you can still open the capsules and mix them into soft foods with a complementary flavor.

FOR OLDER KIDS AND TEENAGERS: anywhere from 2-6 capsules a day. Let them decide if they want more or less. Liver is fabulous for young women beginning their monthly cycles and developing their breasts and full adult body!

Are the cows organic?

Yes! Our beef liver is sourced from 2 wonderful sources, Eel River Beef, a Humboldt County California beef ranch, and Pacific Pastures, also in north coastal California. Our cattle are raised with the highest organic standards, and range on some of the most glorious wild and irrigated pasture you could dream of. They are fed exclusively organic hay during the winter, and the cows are never confined to feedlots or fed grains of any kind. They are not MrNA vaccinated or treated with antibiotics or hormone implants. Plus: many of our cows have an ocean view!

Can I take liver pills while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes! Liver supplies you with the ultimate nutrition to pass through your breastmilk to your sweet babe. That said, please use your own judgment and discuss with your health care practitioner.

Do guys take them?

Heck yeah.

Do you have to be pregnant or nursing to take them them?

Nah.

Why are they sold out?

This is an intimate, artisan business, and our liver pills are available in small, seasonal production runs. I wish I could have liver available to you 24/7! However, the reality is, a quality animal must be born on a quality ranch, live its life, be harvested and packed, and then Mother's Best Liver Pills needs to get hold of that liver and start the production process! For that reason, we sell out periodically. Thank you for your understanding. If you'd like to be notified when new stock is available, please join our mailing list.

Can vegetarians and vegans take liver pills?

Yes. Many vegetarians and vegans find our liver pills a helpful restorative supplement.

I have the MTHFR gene mutation. Can I still take liver pills?

Yes. The gene mutation impedes your ability to digest the fake version of B9. You need to avoid fortified grains, flours and all processed foods. Liver and natural sources of B9 (well-cooked leafy greens) should be fine. I recommend taking a small shot of water with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice with your liver pills to help absorption. A homemade dressing with ACV/lemon juice for your greens is a great idea too. Count yourself blessed to have this diagnosis! You’re sparing your gut from a lot of crap foods and as time passes you will wind up healthier than your non-MTHFR peers.

Do you have an affiliate program?

Yes we do! You're welcome to check it out and apply here. We pay our affiliates via Venmo, so please ensure you provide your Venmo details.

What are the capsules made from?

Our capsules are made from 100% beef gelatin.
